LUNA2000 is Huawei FusionSolar's battery storage family. The LUNA2000-5/10/15-S0 and the LUNA2000-S1 are residential lithium iron phosphate batteries with a power module and stackable battery modules, connected to SUN2000 hybrid inverters; the LUNA2000-97/129/161/200KWH is a commercial and industrial cabinet system with its own control.
What it is and where it is used
LUNA2000 is the name Huawei (FusionSolar line of Huawei Digital Power) gives to its batteries for solar systems. They are lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries that are DC-coupled to a SUN2000 hybrid inverter, and they come in three families: the residential LUNA2000-5/10/15-S0, the residential LUNA2000-5/7/10/…/21-S1 and the commercial and industrial LUNA2000-97/129/161/200KWH system.
They are used to store the day’s solar surplus, supply loads at night, back up essential loads when the grid goes out and, in the commercial system, reduce demand peaks. They are a component of photovoltaic systems. For the inverter they connect to, see Huawei SUN2000 inverter and SmartLogger.
Which battery models Huawei or its distributors offer in each country is confirmed directly with them.

Huawei warns in its sheet that the 97, 129 and 161 kWh versions are not offered in mainland China or Japan; availability by country is defined by Huawei.
Main features
- LUNA2000-S0. Huawei’s sheet gives 2.5 kW continuous with one battery module and 5 kW with two or three, with peaks of 3.5 and 7 kW for 10 s. The assembly has an IP66 protection rating, operates from -20 to 55 °C, is cooled by natural convection and its operating voltage is 350 to 560 V single-phase and 600 to 980 V three-phase.
- LUNA2000-S1. It supports one to three battery modules per power module and up to four systems in parallel. Charge and discharge power is 3.5, 7 and 10.5 kW depending on the configuration. It has IP66 and RS485, FE and CAN communication, the latter only between systems in parallel.
- LUNA2000-97/129/161/200KWH. Outdoor cabinet system, IP55, from -30 to 55 °C. It includes industrial air conditioning, fire suppression, type II DC surge protection and a 220 V AC auxiliary supply. It supports up to 20 systems in parallel, although Huawei’s table applies to sets of up to five.
- Safety. The sheets list certifications such as IEC 62619 and UN 38.3 for the residential models, and UL 9540A and IEC/EN equipment safety standards for the commercial cabinet. Check in the certificate for your region which ones apply.
Communications and integration
The residential battery has no direct connection of its own to the cloud: it communicates with the SUN2000 inverter through the communication port, and the inverter reports it to the FusionSolar platform. The smart power sensor (Smart Power Sensor) at the connection point also uses the inverter’s RS485, so the connection is made following the manufacturer’s guide. The commercial system uses Ethernet or SFP and Modbus TCP, according to the manufacturer’s sheet.
The residential battery is DC-coupled to the hybrid inverter; AC or DC coupling is explained in hybrid solar system with batteries. The parts of a BESS are in BESS: parts, functions and standards. For the complete storage system and its tests, see BESS commissioning.
Frequently asked technical questions
- LUNA2000 manual: Huawei publishes the user manual for each series (for example, the LUNA2000-S1 manual has a September 2025 edition). Use the one for your series and the inverter firmware.
- The battery does not charge or is not detected: check the inverter firmware version, the communication signal and the series compatibility before the battery itself.
- Backup during a grid failure: it depends on the inverter and on how many battery modules there are. Huawei states, for example, a minimum number of modules to operate in island mode with certain inverter series.
- Service life and warranty: the terms are set by Huawei by region and are not summarized here.
What to check before specifying a LUNA2000 battery
- Inverter series. Compatibility depends on the series and the firmware version of the SUN2000 inverter. Huawei states, for example, minimum updates for some series and that only certain series support four batteries in parallel.
- Phase and voltage. The residential battery works in a range of 350 to 560 V for single-phase systems and 600 to 980 V for three-phase; the inverter defines which one applies.
- Location. The IP66 rating allows outdoor installation, but Huawei gives a temperature range of -20 to 55 °C and a maximum altitude of 4000 m with derating above 2000 m; check the site.
- Meter. The Smart Power Sensor at the connection point is part of the system; export control and backup depend on it.
- Commercial system. The LUNA2000-200KWH-2H1 requires a foundation, an AC supply, communication to the control system and the site’s fire safety plan; these requirements are defined in the project and with the utility.
How we help
Our scope is the electrical part that connects the system to the grid: protection at the point of connection, interconnection studies and commissioning. If your project with Huawei batteries needs the interconnection protection defined, see the interconnection study; for commissioning a plant with storage, see solar plant commissioning, which we carry out in Colombia, or elsewhere on request. Write to us through the contact page.
