What it is and when you need it
Remote configuration of NOJA Power reclosers is the service in which our team sets up an OSM recloser control remotely: protection, curves, reclosing sequence, logic, communications and records. We work with NOJA Power equipment and its RC-10 and RC-15 controls, found on distribution networks, substation feeders and the feeders of industrial and solar plants, for clients worldwide.
A recloser usually sits far away, on a pole or at the end of a rural circuit. Changing a setting or investigating a lockout normally means a site visit that leaves the circuit waiting. With secure remote access, the task is done without travel, and our team can focus on what matters: making sure the control settings match the protection coordination study and the utility requirements.
Clients call us for:
- New reclosers that need the project settings before energization.
- Settings changes after a new study, a network reconfiguration or the connection of distributed generation.
- Trips and lockouts that need an explanation.
- Backing up the configuration of every recloser on a circuit.
What is included
- Engineering software. For years NOJA Power used CMS as its settings management and interrogation platform. The manufacturer has announced that CMS 3.17 is the final release and that its successor is Device Configuration Manager (DCM), designed for RC-10 and RC-15 controls with a Relay-04 core. In DCM, settings are handled as approved templates that are loaded to the control. We use the tool that matches your control and your license.
- Protection and curves. Phase, ground and sensitive earth fault overcurrent, directional elements when the control measures voltage, inverse-time and definite-time curves, and the voltage and frequency elements your study calls for.
- Reclosing sequence. Number of recloses, dead times, fast and delayed curves per trip, reset time and lockout conditions. This is the part that most defines coordination with downstream fuses and reclosers.
- Settings groups. NOJA controls support several protection groups. We review all of them, plus the logic or command that switches between them, for example when the circuit is fed from an alternate source.
- Control functions. Cold load pickup, inrush restraint, live line work mode and the control’s programmable logic.
- Communications. DNP3, IEC 60870-5-104 or other protocols enabled on your control, with the point map to the SCADA, and the control’s communication link.
- Events and records. We download the event log, the fault log and, if enabled, oscillography, and we review them with you.
- Backup. We save the active configuration before every change.
When we load a settings template, we also confirm the rated system frequency (50 Hz or 60 Hz). Templates move between projects and markets, and a wrong frequency setting affects measurements and frequency elements.
How we work
First, you tell us the recloser model, the control (RC-10 or RC-15), the relay core and the firmware version, and you send us the study or the approved settings. That tells us whether the job runs on CMS or DCM. Then we agree with your team on how we reach the control: through your network, a cellular modem or a technician on site connected to the control. The connection is encrypted and enabled only for the authorized task.
During the work we save the active configuration, load the settings and compare what was loaded against what was approved. We verify measurements, status points and SCADA signals with you. Secondary injection tests of the control and operation of the recloser are done on site, by your crew or by our test team in Colombia or on request elsewhere.
We do not provide step-by-step CMS or DCM instructions: they depend on the control, its firmware and your study, and they are the work we do for you.
Firmware and license precautions
- Relay core. DCM is for controls with Relay-04; earlier cores stay on CMS or need the upgrade module.
- Licenses. NOJA Power states that CMS only runs with a valid license generated from version 3.15 onward. Please confirm yours is current before the job.
- Firmware. Upgrading the control firmware is a separate job, which we only do with your approval and a verified backup.
- Enabled functions. Some functions are enabled or hidden depending on the control’s configuration; we check that everything the study requires is available on your unit.
What we need from you
- Recloser model, control, relay core and firmware version.
- Approved settings or the protection coordination study.
- The control’s communication link and secure access to it.
- The point map your SCADA expects, if applicable.
- Your authorization for each job on in-service equipment.
What you receive
- The final control configuration and a backup of the previous one.
- The applied settings table, with every group, compared against the approved settings.
- Documented reclosing sequence and logic.
- Event and fault analysis, if requested, and a written report for each session.
Standards and criteria
Reclosers are covered by IEC 62271-111 / IEEE C37.60. Inverse-time curves follow IEC 60255-151 or IEEE C37.112, depending on the study, and telemetry uses DNP3 (IEEE 1815) or IEC 60870-5-104. Settings must coordinate with the fuses, relays and reclosers around them; if you need the study itself, our team can carry out a protection coordination study. We adapt the settings to the local code and the utility requirements that you give us. Our general service for all brands is described under remote recloser configuration.
Tiza Group works with NOJA Power equipment as an independent engineering company. We are not a representative, distributor or authorized service center of the brand, and product names belong to their manufacturer. Tell us your control model and firmware on our contact page and we will confirm the scope.
