What it is and when you need it
Remote GE Vernova Multilin relay configuration is the service in which our team prepares, loads and verifies the configuration of a Multilin relay without going to site: settings, programmable logic, inputs and outputs, communications and records. We work with three families you find in substations and industrial plants worldwide:
- Multilin UR (Universal Relay), the modular platform for lines, transformers, buses, generators and feeders, with models such as the D60 (distance), L90 (line differential), T60 (transformer) and F60 (feeder).
- Multilin 8 Series, for MV and industrial feeders, transformers, motors and generators, with models such as the 850, 845, 869, 859 and 889.
- MiCOM P40 Agile, the line GE Vernova maintains for distance (P44x) and line differential (P54x), among other applications.
Clients use the service to get new devices ready, apply settings from an updated study, integrate relays into SCADA or understand a trip.
What is included
- Engineering software. EnerVista UR Setup for the UR family; the 8 Series configuration tool, which GE Vernova now publishes as EnerVista D&I Setup and which also covers Multilin Agile; and MiCOM S1 Agile for MiCOM P40 Agile. Each one handles its own settings files, which can be prepared offline and compared against the relay.
- FlexLogic and programmable logic. On UR and 8 Series relays, much of the behavior lives in FlexLogic: equations combining pickups, trips, inputs, timers and remote signals. On MiCOM Agile, the equivalent is the programmable scheme logic (PSL). That is where teleprotection schemes, interlocks and blocking are implemented.
- Settings groups. We review every settings group in the relay and the logic that activates it, so the standby group holds the study values and not the factory defaults.
- IEC 61850. We configure the relay’s IEC 61850 data model, GOOSE publications and subscriptions and MMS reports, and integrate it with the substation SCD file when it exchanges data with IEDs from other manufacturers.
- Events and oscillography. We retrieve the event record, oscillography and, where available, the fault report, and review them with you. Oscillography is exported in COMTRADE.
- Backup and comparison. We save the existing settings file before every change and compare what was loaded against what was approved; EnerVista UR Setup can compare an offline file with the online relay.
How we work
First we review the order code and firmware version of each relay. On the UR family, the order code defines the installed modules (inputs, outputs, CT/VT modules, communications), and the firmware version defines which settings exist and which EnerVista version is required. We also confirm the rated frequency, 50 Hz or 60 Hz, in the relay and in any settings template, since a file reused from another project can carry the wrong one. Then we agree with your communications team on secure access, encrypted and enabled only for the authorized window.
During the intervention we save the existing configuration, load settings, FlexLogic and communications, and verify metering, statuses, SCADA signals and GOOSE messages with you. If secondary injection tests are needed, your staff on site runs them with our live online support. Our team can perform field testing in Colombia, or elsewhere on request.
We do not publish step-by-step EnerVista or S1 Agile instructions: they depend on the family, the firmware and the project, and they are the work we do for you. Remote services are available worldwide; we work from Bogotá (UTC−5) and schedule the work window with you.
Firmware and compatibility precautions
- The settings file and the firmware must match. EnerVista UR Setup checks the file version against the relay before sending it and can convert files from earlier versions with a differences report, which we review line by line.
- UR firmware upgrade paths are not always direct: some versions require going through an intermediate one. We check GE Vernova’s release notes before proposing any change.
- The EnerVista version must be equal to or higher than the one the firmware requires.
- Settings and command passwords stay under your control.
What we need from you
- Family, model, order code and firmware version of each relay.
- The current settings file, if you have it, or authorization to read it from the relay.
- Approved settings, control drawings and signal list.
- The SCD file, if the relays exchange GOOSE with other devices.
- Secure access to the relays and a site contact.
What you receive
- The final settings file for each relay and a backup of the previous one.
- The applied settings table, with every group, compared against the approved one.
- Documented FlexLogic equations or PSL, with the purpose of each signal.
- The relay IEC 61850 files, where applicable.
- Event and oscillography analysis, if requested, and a written report of each session.
Standards and criteria
Inverse-time curves follow IEC 60255-151 or IEEE C37.112, as defined by the study. Communications are configured with IEC 61850 and, toward SCADA, DNP3 (IEEE 1815) or another protocol you define. Oscillography is handled in COMTRADE (IEEE C37.111 / IEC 60255-24). Functions such as 87T transformer differential, 50/51 overcurrent and motor and generator protection are referenced by their IEEE C37.2 device numbers. We adapt the settings to the local code and the utility requirements you give us. If you need the settings themselves, our protection coordination study delivers them ready to load. For Schneider Electric MiCOM relays, see Schneider Electric Easergy and MiCOM, and for all brands, remote relay configuration.
Tiza Group works with GE Vernova equipment as an independent engineering company. We are not a representative, distributor or authorized service center of the brand, and product names belong to their manufacturer. Send us the family, model and firmware through contact and we will confirm the scope.
